On November 13th, 2002, the Government of Canada officially recognized June 27th as Multiculturalism Day across the country. Each year Canadians celebrate their diverse heritage and the contribution of many cultures to the growth and development of the country. To find out more about the celebration, I turned to my favourite cultural experts…the LAT team! Here are our thoughts and reflections on Multiculturalism Day:
On July 1st, 2014, the Canadian Anti-Spam Law (CASL) will be coming into effect. The new regulations, which will be the toughest in the world, prevent the sending of unsolicited commercial electronic messages (CEMs) and the unauthorized installation of computer software on an individual’s computer. This means that businesses will need to adapt their communications strategy to ensure that they are CASL compliant. Here’s a basic overview of the law, as it pertains to CEMS, to help you get started:
Paddles up! The Rio Tinto Alcan Dragon Boat Festival takes place in Vancouver this year from June 20-22 on the waters of False Creek. Originally created for Expo ’86, the festival has grown into a huge celebration of sport and culture.
This year marked the 10th Anniversary of the City of Bhangra Festival in Vancouver. From May 29th-June 7th, thousands of people came to the festival’s many events around the city to celebrate and, being lovers of bhangra ourselves, LAT Multilingual decided to explore this dynamic festival. If you're trying to reach audiences with multiple linguistic and cultural backgrounds, be sure to consider your social media strategy. Not only will you want to translate it, but you'll also want to localize and adapt it for your target audiences.
Québec was forged by the courage and ardour of the first settlers. Without knowing exactly what awaited them, they agreed to cross an ocean in a wooden boat, in extremely difficult conditions. No sooner had they arrived, weakened by the months-long crossing, than they had to adapt to face a capricious climate with the widest range of seasonal temperatures in the world.
