On what would usually otherwise be a sleepy Sunday in August, the downtown buses are packed with people of all ages and ethnicities, dressed up and speaking excitedly in languages ranging from English to Mandarin to Spanish. Where could all of these people be headed on a long weekend in the middle of summer? They’re on their way to the Pride Parade, Vancouver’s annual celebration of diversity and acceptance across cultures, genders, and sexual orientations.

On July 1st, 2014, the Canadian Anti-Spam Law (CASL) will be coming into effect. The new regulations, which will be the toughest in the world, prevent the sending of unsolicited commercial electronic messages (CEMs) and the unauthorized installation of computer software on an individual’s computer. Paddles up! The Rio Tinto Alcan Dragon Boat Festival takes place in Vancouver this year from June 20-22 on the waters of False Creek. Originally created for Expo ’86, the festival has grown into a huge celebration of sport and culture.
